David Hare
DAVID HARE: vero nome David Rippon. Drammaturgo inglese. l suo primo lavoro, Slag, è stato messo in scena nel 1970. Dal 1970 al 1971 è stato nominato “Resident Dramatist” del Royal Court Theatre di Londra e dal 1973 della Nottingham Playhouse. Nel 1975 Hare è tra i fondatori della Joint Stock Company insieme a David Aukin e Max Stafford-Clark.
Hare comincia a scrivere per il National Theatre e, sempre presso il National Theatre, nel 1978 viene messo in scena il suo Plenty, seguito da A Map of the World nel 1983, e Pravda nel 1985, scritto con Howard Brenton.
David Hare nel 1984 diventa Ammiistratore del National Theatre, e molti suoi lavori sono stati prodotti là, come la trilogia Racing Demon, Murmuring Judges, e The Absence of War. Hare da regista ha diretto diverse opere tra le quali: The Pleasure Principle di Snoo Wilson, Weapons of Happiness di Howard Brenton, e King Lear di William Shakespeare sempre per il National Theatre.
Ha scritto anche sceneggiature per film, tra i quali Plenty, Wetherby, Strapless, e Paris by Night, e commedie per la BBC (Licking Hitler e Saigon: The Year of the Cat).
Tra i premi che ha vinto citiamo il BAFTA Award (1979), il New York Drama Critics Circle Award (1983), L’Orso d’Oro del Festival di Berlino (1985), il Lawrence Olivier Award (1990), e il London Theatre Critics’ Award (1990).
Gli è stato conferito il titolo di Cavaliere nel 1998.
Nel 2011 gli viene conferito il PEN/Pinter Prize.
