Sinossi:

“Occident Express” is a poignant play inspired by a true story from 2015. The story follows Haifa, an elderly woman from Mosul, Iraq, who embarks on a harrowing journey with her four-year-old granddaughter to escape the ravages of war. Travelling approximately 5,000 kilometres along the Balkan route, they seek refuge in the Baltic States. The play chronicles Haifa’s odyssey, highlighting the challenges and resilience encountered during their perilous escape.

The first production of the play featured Ottavia Piccolo in the role of Haifa, with music composed and conducted by Enrico Fink, and performed by the Orchestra Multietnica di Arezzo. The performance intertwines narrative and music to convey the emotional depth of Haifa’s journey.

In 2020, “Occident Express” was adapted into a film directed by Simone Marcelli, with Ottavia Piccolo reprising her role. The film premiered at the Giornate degli Autori section of the Venice Film Festival.
