Davide Enia

Davide Enia (born in 1974 in Palermo, Italy) is an Italian playwright, actor, and novelist. He is widely recognized for his ability to blend storytelling, literature, and theatre, creating deeply emotional and engaging narratives.

Enia began his career in the theatre world, gaining prominence with his one-man shows that combine monologue, physical performance, and music. His breakthrough came with Italia-Brasile 3 a 2 (2002), a play that explores personal and collective memory through football, a recurring theme in his works. His theatrical productions, including Scanna (2003) and I capitoli dell’infanzia (2004), have been performed in major theatres across Italy and internationally.

In addition to his work as a playwright and performer, Enia is also an acclaimed novelist. His debut novel, Così in terra (2012), was met with critical success and has been translated into several languages. His most recent book, Appunti per un naufragio (2017), is a powerful reflection on the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean, drawing from firsthand experiences and deep personal engagement.

Davide Enia has also been featured in the Biennale Teatro, one of the most prestigious international theatre festivals, organised by the Venice Biennale. His participation in the Biennale Teatro has showcased his unique storytelling approach, blending Sicilian oral tradition with contemporary theatrical forms.

Among his notable works presented at the Biennale Teatro are: “I capitoli dell’infanzia” (2004) and “Maggio ‘43” (2013) – A gripping play that reconstructs the Allied bombings of Palermo during World War II through the voices of those who lived through them, highlighting Enia’s deep connection to historical narratives.

Over the years, Enia has received numerous awards for both his theatrical and literary work, solidifying his reputation as one of Italy’s most compelling contemporary storytellers. His writing is characterised by a poetic yet raw style, often addressing themes of memory, identity, family, and the human condition.
